How We Take Care Of Our Animals
At Platinum Heritage, we welcome travellers who care about the animals they encounter. Camels, falcons, and wildlife such as the Arabian oryx are an important part of our desert experiences, and their welfare is always our priority.
We follow the Global Welfare Guidance for Animals in Tourism, ensuring every animal is healthy, comfortable, well-nourished, safe, able to express natural behaviours, and free from distress.
Ethical animal tourism can protect species, raise awareness of biodiversity, support conservation, and honour cultural traditions. Guided by ABTA’s Five Freedoms, we maintain transparent and rigorous welfare standards, making sure every safari is as respectful to the animals as it is memorable for our guests.
Freedoms Of Animal Welfare
We follow the five freedoms of animal welfare to ensure that the well-being of our animals is maintained at all times. These include freedom from hunger or thirst, freedom from discomfort, freedom from pain, injury or disease, freedom to express normal behaviour and freedom from fear and distress.
Caring For Our Camels
Our camels are cared for to the highest standards, living together on a dedicated farm with plenty of space to rest and socialise. They are ridden only twice a day and enjoy a full day off each week. Fed a healthy diet, given daily showers, and checked regularly by vets, they remain in excellent health. Padded saddles and strict weight limits ensure comfort. Connect with one of these beautiful animals on our Camel Desert Safari with a 45-minute camel trek.
Respecting Our Falcons
Our falcons are cared for by expert falconers with over 100 years of combined experience. Each falconer looks after only a few birds, building strong bonds and understanding their needs and personalities. Domesticated and treated like beloved pets, our falcons live longer, healthier lives than in the wild. Guests can experience these remarkable birds up close through our immersive Bedouin Culture Safari or Royal Falconry Training Experience.
No Dune Bashing
Many desert safaris in Dubai include dune bashing, which is a leading cause of severe desertification, the damaging of vegetation and driving wildlife away. As a sustainable alternative, our safaris feature gentle wildlife drives on set tracks in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Guided by a professional Conservationist, we ensure no habitat is disturbed. Guests can observe native species, including the once-endangered Arabian oryx, while learning about the desert’s delicate ecosystem.
